Online Steering Committee Meeting
The EaP CSF Steering Committee met online on the 1st and 2nd February 2021 to exchange updates on activities of National Platforms and shape the EaP CSF strategy for 2022-2025.
The EaP CSF strategy for 2022-2025 should strengthen the synergies between the EaP CSF National Platforms in the Eastern Partnership countries. A dedicated Steering Committee task force has been established to work towards this goal.
To ensure that the voice of EaP civil society reaches EU leaders during the EaP Summit in autumn 2021, the Steering Committee discussed civil society’s concerns. In general, the EU should improve its responsiveness to events on the ground. Also, the Eastern Partnership policy should be increasingly oriented towards society rather than the government. This would mean decreasing the volumes of assistance to states while increasing assistance provided to civil society.
Another matter on the meeting agenda was the EaP CSF’s advocacy priorities for 2021. The EaP CSF should continue to advocate for stronger representation on all levels. In addition, civil society should be put at the centre of the EaP policy implementation and monitoring. Finally, the mitigation of the pandemic’s consequences should remain in focus for 2021.
