Georgian Government’s Decisions are Contrary to the National Interests of Georgia

Statement of the Coordinating Council of the Georgian National Platform

In their statement, the Coordinating Council of the Georgian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum expresses their dissent with the decision of the Georgian government not to join the economic sanctions imposed on Russia.

Ukraine’s President fighting against barbaric Russian forces, recalled the ambassador to Georgia for consultations. The reason is the decisions made by the Government of Georgia (GoG) not to join the economic sanctions imposed on Russia and to prevent the departure of volunteers to help the Ukrainians.

We believe that the GoG’s decisions are contrary to the national interests of  Georgia, destroy Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic perspective and undermine Georgia’s international image.

From the rational and moral point of view, we think that it is not right to watch from distance how the Russian army is destroying the Ukrainian state, murdering children, women and the elderly, depriving them of their right to free choice and life. We cannot observe it from a distance how they are committing crimes against humanity.

The Georgian National Platform believes that in this situation the Government of Georgia should take measures rapidly to improve relations with Ukraine. Otherwise, they must resign.
