The Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum participated in the EU4Green Recovery East Regional Assembly Week in France, bringing together representatives of the national authorities from the Eastern Partnership countries, European Commission and other stakeholders to discuss progress on advancing the green transition across the region.
During the Regional Assembly, Elena Culighin, Public association National Environmental Center, delegate of the EaP CSF Working Group 3, welcomed the progress achieved by the EU4Green Recovery East programme and underlined the importance of further strengthening its impact through three key recommendations:
- Recognise civil society as a strategic partner: Beyond consultations, environmental NGOs, local communities, academia and independent experts should be systematically involved in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation to reinforce environmental governance, accountability and resilience.
- Embed environmental security in the programme’s approach: Environmental protection should be framed not only as a technical objective but also as a cornerstone of regional resilience, sustainable development and long-term security, particularly in the current geopolitical context of the Eastern Partnership.
- Strengthen environmental democracy: Ensuring access to environmental information, meaningful public participation and access to justice remains essential for the effective implementation of the EU environmental acquis and for promoting transparent, accountable and inclusive environmental governance.
