Rule of Law Conference

Ziya Guliyev and Boris Navasardyan provided civil society’s input at the Rule of Law conference, held in Helsinki under Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Experts contributed with their recommendations to the policy exchange with the EU and EaP stakeholders on the topic of democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights in the Eastern Partnership region.

Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (EaP CSF) contributed to the discussions at the conference on Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights, with interventions by civil society representatives Boris Navasardian (Yerevan Press Club) and Ziya Guliyev (CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation).

«On the EU level», Navasardian stated, «we have to realise that challenges towards Rule of Law, Human Rights and democratic institutions in some EU member countries are interconnected with the same processes in EaP countries. Hence, we have to find joint responses.»

EaP CSF encourages all stakeholders to regularly observe narratives that challenge the basis of European societal and political models. In this way, civil society will be prepared to immediately address threats and develop responses to them.
