The European Union has launched a roadmap for making the EU’s economy sustainable — the European Green Deal. This will happen by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy areas and making the transition green, sustainable and inclusive for all. European Green New Deal is being increasingly encouraged across the EU and in the EU Neighbourhood — aiming for a climate-neutral continent. Climate actions can be pathways for young people to galvanize national and local agendas for changing behaviours and policies, in order to ensure sustainable development of the Eastern Partnership Region. Thus, young people want to be part of the public dialogue on the environment, expressing a vivid motivation to eliminate pollution, enhance the level of clean energy and sustainable mobility for transforming the impact of economics and damaging social behavior patterns on the environment.

Impressions

“In the times when civic space is getting smaller in the EaP region each year, we need events like this to remind us that we are few, but we are never alone! We need to unite and educate each other in these difficult times for civil society.”

Tatiana Shauro

Climate Action Network

“The Green New Deal is not just an European commitment to green transition, but rather a glocalised endeavour. In this sense, the EaP Youth Conference has successfully vocalized the engagement of the youth generation from the Eastern neighbourhood to work together and start local.”

Ana Indoitu

Working Group 4 Delegate, EaP CSF

“The Green Ideathon was a fantastic activity during the Conference to engage us in the networking, what gave us one more platform to promote the sustainable development of our future.”

Through participation in the online Eastern Partnership Youth Conference “Youth for Environment”, young people discovered methods, strategies and tools to cultivate environmental behaviour and knowledge, advancing environmental education and activism among peers in the Eastern Partnership. Participants from the selected countries were equipped with tools to enable them to tackle environmental problems through quality education, advocacy, youth work in order to boost the efficient use of resources by moving to a clean, circular economy and restore biodiversity and cut pollution.

The Eastern Partnership Youth Conference “Youth for Environment” 2020 gathered around 130 participants in total, including 90 young people from the EaP countries, EU member states and Russia.
