The following report points to a progressive worsening of the situation in Moldova, especially with regards to the rule of law. Recent events show that the electoral legal framework works to the benefit of the ruling party, going against recommendations put together by the Venice Commission and various national experts.

Suppression of electoral results and opposition, as well as growing corruption and bribery are further evidence of Moldovan administration moving away from democratic principles. According to the report, the space for civil society is shrinking – which includes a clamp-down on free media, peaceful protests and prosecution of activists and whistle-blowers. We are on the road to full-scale state capture, claim the authors of the report.

Recommendations are presented as brief summaries, and range from topics such as: EU Association Agreement, anti-corruption measures, judiciary, economy, media, human rights, democracy and electoral standards. The report closes with a compilation of puvblic appeals and declarations made by different members of Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (EaP CSF) Moldovan National Platform.

“Monitoring Public Policies in Moldova» report, published by EaP CSF Moldovan National Platform Working Group 1 “Democracy, Human Rights, Good Governance and Stability”, is an insight into various projects that took place since 2017 EaP CSF Annual Assembly in Tallinn. This is the result of monitoring work undertaken by its members, and consists of analysis and short summaries on different areas of public policy in Moldova.
